CANCER FIGHT GETS SHS 380MILLION  BOOST

Cancer patients will have a better chance of getting treatment after a cancer ward is set up.
At least Shs380 million has been earmarked by Centenary Rural Development Bank to fight cancer. This was revealed over the weekend when at least 224 people turned up for cancer screening during a parade at St Francis Healthcare Centre in Njeru District.
Centenary Rural Development Bank and Rotary International are behind the initiative, the bank’s head of corporate affairs and communication, Ms Allen Ayebare, said that 24 people tested cancer-positive while six people were referred for further checkup in major hospitals because they had cancer signs which the medics could not readily confirm.
The medical team mainly concentrated on checking cervical and breast cancer and the money is going to be used to build a cancer ward at Nsambya Hospital. A cancer specialist at Nsambya, Dr Martin Nsubuga, said cancer was becoming common among the reproductive ages of 18 and 35yrs. He said cervical cancer patients always bleed after sexual intercourse and have abrupt menstruation periods while breast cancer manifests with hard inflammations.
